Wherever Bishop Talbert serves, he is outspoken in behalf of the oppressed and the marginalized. From Gammon Theological Seminary to a jail cell with Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., from the local church to General Conference, from the General Council on Ministries to the Board of Discipleship, from the General Commission on Religion and Race to the World Methodist Council, to the General Commission on Christian Unity and Interreligious Concerns. From Africa to Baghdad, China, Israel, North and South Korea, Russian and countless places in between, Bishop Melvin Talbert has shared the love of God and the example of Christ in behalf of the United Methodist Church. He is known for his prophetic stands for inclusiveness and justice. He has tirelessly fought to help his church and society address racism. He is committed to racial, gender and sexual orientation inclusiveness. He believes there is a place at God’s Table for everyone. Bishop Talbert’s lecture title is “Overlooked and Ignored.” |
